Does familyWORKZ™
only work with families?
No. We provide psychological counseling services to individuals,
couples, and families. We work with children age 10 and up,
adolescents, and adults across the entire lifespan.
What is the significance of the familyWORKZ™
name?
We carefully chose “family” to be the central part of our
professional identity. We deeply believe that the most serious,
stubborn, and scratchy problems in life are based on relationships
(too much of a relationship, not enough of one, or it’s been too
long since the last great one). Moreover, it is our belief that we
all share a desire to be part of a family, whether at home, at work,
at play, we want nothing more than to belong.
The other half of our name, “WORKZ,”
was chosen to highlight that
nothing feels better than a family that works and to make this
happen takes work. The “z” was added to set us apart just a bit, to
add zing.
Does familyWORKZ™
take insurance?
Yes. We are on Aetna and Sloans Lake.
On other plans, you can get reimbursement for our services as
an out-of-network provider.
Many insurance plans do not provide reimbursement for either
couples or family services. At
familyWORKZ™,
we offer a sliding scale fee based on income for those without
insurance or insurance that does not pay for certain services.
What is your philosophy of change at
familyWORKZ™?
We believe in the power of each person to find the strengths,
gifts, and talents, within and around them, to bring out desired
change. We are experts in human behavior and the change process. But
our client are the experts on themselves. We take a partnership,
collaborative approach to therapy. We are resources to help you find
and engage in your own life's journey.
We believe the process of change goes along slowly, slowly, slowly…
and then seemingly happening all at once. That’s why we advocate
for the “fewest number of sessions over the longest period of time.”
It's the time factor that brings about desired change.
We provide a safety net for change, accountability, resources for
the journey, and methods that are likely to result in long-term,
beneficial, and values-oriented change for you, your family, and
your community.
What is the average length of treatment?
The
process of psychotherapy is hard to describe in general statements
since it varies depending upon the unique characteristics and
dynamics of the client-therapist relationship, your particular needs
and problems, your unique history and skills, and your goals for
therapy.
We typically see clients for a brief period of time on a weekly
basis, based on client needs and goals, and then on a less frequent
basis as they implement the actions and changes they selected as the
most urgent to meet their needs.
Our model is based on a time-limited, action-oriented and
goal-directed model that brings about the maximum amount of change
toward client goals in the least amount of time. Of course, each
person, couple and family have unique needs and requirements. We
will help you find the right mix of services for your unique
situation.
Ok, so what's the up side and down side of seeking help in
therapy?
Psychotherapy can have risks in addition to benefits. Therapy may
involve discussing unpleasant aspects of your life, and you may
experience uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, images or memories.
Conversely, psychotherapy has also been shown to be beneficial in
terms of better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and
reduction in personal distress. Research indicates many people find
therapy helpful, but there are no guarantees about what you will
experience in this process.
